Hi Andrew,

Thanks, that was fast.

I'm looking to upgrade to win10.  Tried iii times so far, and each time the new win10 whilst running has buggered something different in my software environment.  The easiest way to avoid problems with a 4th attempt is to get rid of these C++ re-distributables first.  I was trying to avoid a rundown on how I came by that conclusion, painful  . . . . but some of information technology seems necessary, see below.

And so, this is what the re-distributables on my PC currently look similar

And that link you sent really doesn't encompass the trouble; apart from annihilation, there are more re-distributables earlier than 2010 than later.  And these programs are associated with/installed by  Corel's video studio program.  And while that link identifies the binder the redistributables are in (/winsxs), the binder names in it are so convoluted and unrelated that information technology is pretty well-nigh impossible to place any re-distributables there.

My buggered updates, and why?? inquiry identified that the re-distributables used under win7 are different to those under win 10: they simply won't work, and MS has reported that in various pages I found on the cyberspace.  And removing the migrated win7 versions nether win10 and then re-installing the related Video studio program which in turn installed win10 re-distributables partially solved the outcome, only made information technology look like the redistributables under win10 had been captured by the latest program version installed: VS allows several version on the same PC, just only ane tin can run at the same time. Running installed version x10, worked, but the installing/running version 2022 (version is 1 year later than x10) worked, but the x10 version bankrupt at a identify where redistributables are known to be in activeness.

I can onbly conclude that something associated with redistributables seems to have carried over in the upgrade.

The fix seems to exist to remove everything related to re-distributables before attempting an in-place migration: so the win10 installation starts with a clean slate.  And thus my opening query: about make clean up, and specifically whether there is something else apart from delete them in P&F that must be washed, and I suspect the registry is involved here.

Is there something else??

If you lot don't want your presently installed programs to work in vii or 10.....................................

Read this information about them:

Why Are There So Many "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables ...

Any additional versions of the Visual C++ Redistributable you see on your organization were installed along with some programme that required information technology. When a developer codes in a specific version of Visual C++, the lawmaking libraries for that version must also exist present on the user'south organisation for the application to run. That means that, for instance, if a developer used Visual C++ 2005 (or Visual Studio 2005) to create a program you're installing, y'all tin look to see the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable installed on your arrangement along with the program.

Cheers.

Yes, I know that.

I've also constitute that re-distributables installed by Video Studio (VS) under win7 volition not run (program starts, but hangs when screen displays needing the redistributables are chosen: chore mgr needed to end it) when the whole installation is migrated to win 10.

Under a clean win10 installation, simply installing VS likewise installs the redistributables it wants to apply with win10.  And VS normally allows many different versions to be installed on the same PC.  A clean install built from the ground up including several versions of VS - that works (commentary from many users on the awarding forum)

Just a clean win10 install breaks some other essential elements of my software environment:  a migrated installation doesn't - apart from the re-distributables for VS.

And then my program for the 4th attempt at upgrade is to remove all the VS installs, and the re-distributables they use before attempting a migrated win10 upgrade over again:  to retain all the working migrated items, and to effectively create for VS a clean slate every bit tho it was a clean install of win10.  And and so install the VS versions I want.

This approach seems to be a much better method than the days of installs of every item of software I've got when a make clean install of win10 is done.  But information technology'south all dependent beingness able to remove every re-distributable on the machine, and whatsoever reference to them in the registry, earlier I start.

Thus, how to remove them???

Yes, I know that.

I've likewise constitute that re-distributables installed past Video Studio (VS) nether win7 will not run (program starts, but hangs when screen displays needing the redistributables are chosen: task mgr needed to stop it) when the whole installation is migrated to win ten.

Under a clean win10 installation, but installing VS also installs the redistributables it wants to utilise with win10.  And VS unremarkably allows many unlike versions to be installed on the aforementioned PC.  A clean install built from the ground up including several versions of VS - that works (commentary from many users on the application forum)

But a clean win10 install breaks some other essential elements of my software environs:  a migrated installation doesn't - apart from the re-distributables for VS.

So my plan for the quaternary try at upgrade is to remove all the VS installs, and the re-distributables they utilize earlier attempting a migrated win10 upgrade once more:  to retain all the working migrated items, and to finer create for VS a clean slate as tho it was a clean install of win10.  And and then install the VS versions I want.

This arroyo seems to exist a much better method than the days of installs of every item of software I've got when a clean install of win10 is washed.  But information technology's all dependent being able to remove every re-distributable on the motorcar, and any reference to them in the registry, earlier I start.

Thus, how to remove them???

Equally you don't know what Visual C++ Redistributable is to practise with each program, you will have to uninstall everything.

You lot say clean install 10, then you say 4th attempt at upgrade.

Which is it?

If you want to use the programs in x, every bit for whatever reason you seem to recall they are not compatible, reinstall them.

Make older apps or programs compatible with Windows x

Nib,

I Sympathise that I will have to uninstall all of them, and having washed it once, it's tiresome (run into remarks almost endeavour iii below).  I mentioned non regurgitating history, but here is a summary and may be it explains things a bit better;

I've established that the only software using redist is Corel's video studio program.

Video studio supports win10 and allows multiple installation.  There is a user forum whose administrators and members verify that multiple installations run correctly on that platform.  Information technology's a event I am aiming for in a migration to windows10.

So, why uninstall the re-distribuatbles??

Various information pages say redistributables need to run under the version (of runtime) they were installed for.  And I found that out the hard way after I had migrated a win 7 installation to win10 (attempt ane):  5 versions of Corel's video Studio programme all broke at the same place, in the centre of displaying the Share folio: the program hung up doing that, and the but way out was kill using task managing director.  Everything els

e worked.  I reverted to win 7 using recovery from backup file after 4 weeks of unsuccessful frustrating attempts to establish a cause (MS answers involved in that).

A clean install of win10 (attempt ii) installed the redistributables every bit part of new installs of VS - different ones shown in P&F - and the program ran correctly.  As part of the main plan install, the security query about downloading them identified a probable cause of the migrated situation, and MS Answers confirmed that the runtime is part of the OS and different for each Bone, and thus the opening statement above. But a clean install broke as well many other essential items in the software surroundings, and I reverted to win 7 again.

Endeavor three was a migrated install and this time subsequently the migration I uninstalled the re-distributables (using the detail you screenshotted) before doing anything else.  When I installed video studio over again (version x10), it ran correctly.  Heartened, I installed version 2022 (the programme allows multiple installations, but only one can run at any 1 fourth dimension) and it also ran correctly.  But a check on the earlier x10 version showed it now broke at the same place every bit before: as tho the newest VS installation had captured the re-distributable required by the earlier version.  Something clearly carried over in the migration, fifty-fifty tho new redist were installed.  Reverted to win7 again.

Then before my fourth attempt at migration, because of that prior "deport over issue", my question is about whether the standard P&F uninstall is all that'south needed to uninstall i of those programs.  The respond seems to be yep, but that doesn't explicate the prior 'captured redist' result.  Perchance something else does???

...........Corel's video studio plan...........

Lets start over ...

What version of Corel's video studio .. Do you ain?

Who told you that if Win10 get your disliked Bone that yous have a gamble to return at Win 7, with out you investing start at buying boosted hard bulldoze and perform cloning of the Win vii current installation ?

Yous seem blindly seeking to go Win10 Installed with out to consider the next day.

My advice forget the Win10 spider web installer.

Get Win10 Retail and test them in a new hard drive.

Do not bear upon or damage the HDD with the Win 7 Bone.

Hi,

In order,

one.  I ain all of them: X9 thru 2022 (v versions)

ii.  My system backup uses Acronis True Image, presently v2018, configured for whole partitioning or disk: takes nigh 40 minutes to practice in max compressed form.  Getting the C: image of win7 back after win10 is "off the rails" is every bit elementary every bit recovering the backup prototype using the Acronis Truthful Image bootable recovery disk.  It works, takes about 10 minutes to restore, and has saved my **** many times.

3.  I am using a retail version of win10 home;  bought in USB form Nov 2019, from memory v1909, only likewise downloaded as an iso file from the MS site and burnt to disk for use.

The C: drive disk is an SSD, and the C drive Os programs and information are all that is on it:  as far as possible application programs and data are on the other 3 HDD.  I do have boot manager running, but accept not configured it for dual kick: win 7 and win 10.  I use information technology to ensure I am able get an F8 rubber mode start if I need it.  When a win10 upgrade happens, boot manager is also upgraded;  it displays win10 as the OS, rather than win7.

You have your ways to restore partitions and this is good.

Now make a choice of operating organization that y'all volition stick with.

I own X3 Retail and never had an outcome when I use it with XP Pro,  today I will reinstall it a Win7 Pro for a first time.

Now lets say that you are installing Video studio at fresh operating arrangement .... Question did you select -> Right click -> Run as ambassador of the specific  Video studio.exe  ?

Another solution so to cease the App from crashing or hung,  this is to activate the Existent Administrator account and install it from it.

Skilful luck.
